Cephalexin Over The Counter

The Pulitzers and HuffPo’s arrival: The Pulitzer Prizes were awarded this week, accompanied as usual by tears and impromptu speeches in newsrooms around the country (documented well by Jeff Sonderman on Storify). On the meta-level, the Washington Post’s Erik Wemple criticized the awards’ secrecy, but Dean Starkman of the Columbia Journalism Review offered a defense of having such publicly celebrated industry awards in the first place, arguing that during an era when news organizations have become so adept at measuring journalism quantity, the Pulitzers are one of the few barometers left for journalism quality, get Cephalexin.

As for this year’s awards themselves, the American Journalism Review’s Rem Rieder pointed out that while the Pulitzers are usually dominated by a few heavy hitters, this year brought several feel-good stories. One of those was the Pulitzer won by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Buy cheap Cephalexin no rx, the once-great paper that has had an extremely rough last several years and was sold yet again for a bargain-basement price just a few weeks ago. Poynter’s Steve Myers reported on the award’s impact, which one reporter called “a wonderful burst of hope.”

Another remarkable Pulitzer winner was Sara Ganim of the Patriot News of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who at 24 became one of the youngest Pulitzer winners ever for her reporting on the Penn State sex abuse scandal. Poynter’s Mallary Tenore explained how she took the lead on the story at two different papers, Cephalexin Over The Counter. Erik Wemple explained why (nothing personal!), but Gawker’s Hamilton Nolan loved the decision, calling editorials “a worthless anachronism in this modern media age.”

But the biggest theme in this year’s Pulitzers was the prominence of online journalism: The online-only Huffington Post and the very online-centric Politico both won prizes, Cephalexin online cod, which the Lab’s Adrienne LaFrance called a victory for their fast-paced, aggressive editorial models. Additionally, Twitter played a big role in the tornado coverage that earned Alabama’s Tuscaloosa News a Pulitzer, as Poynter’s Jeff Sonderman detailed.

Of those online-oriented Pulitzers, order Cephalexin online c.o.d, the Huffington Post’s drew the bulk of the attention. HuffPo’s Michael Calderone and Poynter’s Mallary Tenore Cephalexin Over The Counter,  both told the story behind HuffPo’s award-winning story, and in an AP story, Ken Doctor called it an arrival of sorts for HuffPo, while VentureBeat’s Jolie O’Dell called it a win for quality blogs everywhere. PaidContent’s Staci Kramer said HuffPo’s win shows the old guard has finally learned that the work, not the medium, is the message. There was also quite a bit of other talk about HuffPo’s model this week, though most of it wasn’t directly related to the Pulitzers. Media blogger Andrew Nusca expressed his frustration with the parade of “awful posts and shameless slideshows” that populates most of HuffPo and its competitors, and the Columbia Journalism Review published an in-depth story on how HuffPo developed its distinctive model and why it works. Meanwhile, the Lab’s Justin Ellis wrote on HuffPo’s refusal to employ false balance when covering climate change and Folio reported on its coming magazine iPad app, Cephalexin Over The Counter.


 

Amazon under fire: A week after the U.S, purchase Cephalexin. Justice Department sued Apple and five major book publishers for antitrust violations (paidContent’s Laura Hazard Owen has a good description of what it means for readers), most of the attention shifted to the biggest ebook player not involved in the lawsuit: Amazon. The New York Times reported on a small publisher that has removed its titles from Amazon out of frustration that the retailer’s low prices were undercutting its own booksellers.

CNET’s Greg Sandoval talked to other small publishers who see Amazon as a much bigger threat than Apple, Get Cephalexin, and at the Daily, Timothy Lee urged the U.S. government Cephalexin Over The Counter,  to change copyright law to allow Amazon’s competitors to convert Kindle books to be compatible with other devices. The New York Times’ David Carr gave the most ominous warning of Amazon’s below-cost ebook pricing’s effect on the publishing industry, saying that with the suit, “Now Amazon has the Justice Department as an ally to rebuild its monopoly and wipe out other players.”

Novelist Charlie Stross went into the economics of Amazon’s ebook strategy, comparing it to big-box retailers that wipe out mom-and-pop stores with their extremely low pricing: “Amazon has the potential to be like that predatory big box retailer on a global scale, Cephalexin overnight. And it’s well on the way to doing so in the ebook sector.” Forbes’ Tim Worstall pushed back against Stross’ characterization, arguing that Amazon doesn’t have a monopoly on the ebook market because it’s still extremely easy to put ebooks on a server, achieve some scale and contest Amazon’s dominance.

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Cephalexin from mexico, for his part, released a letter to shareholders last Friday that asserted that “even well-meaning gatekeepers slow innovation.” Techcrunch’s John Biggs said this philosophy makes sense in the world of networked information, but Wired’s Tim Carmody said Amazon is really trying to draw a contrast between its own infrastructure-based model and the product-based “gatekeeping” model of its chief competitor, Apple.


Google’s open web warning: A few nuggets regarding Google: In an interview with the Guardian, Google co-founder Sergey Brin warned of “very powerful forces” lining up against the open web around the world, Cephalexin samples, referring both to oppressive governments like China and Iran and to Google’s competitors, like Facebook and Apple. Tech blogger John Gruber noted that Brin seems to be assuming that the open web is “only what Google can index and sell ads against,” and Wired’s Tim Carmody took that point deeper, arguing that Google is part of the continuum of control and closure of the Internet between governments and corporations, not separate from it, Cephalexin Over The Counter.

Elsewhere, Ross Douthat of the New York Times used Google’s recently unveiled Project Glass, Herbal Cephalexin, which would bring all the information of a smartphone in front of our eyes in the form of glasses, as a warning against the possibility of a sort of hyper-surveillance techno-tyranny. Web philosopher Stowe Boyd ripped Douthat’s assertion that Google’s glasses are a reflection of our growing loneliness. (Slate’s Eric Klinenberg wrote a more thorough takedown of the “we’re getting lonelier” hypothesis, targeting Atlantic’s recent article on Facebook.) And late last week, Google’s news products chief, Cephalexin pharmacy, Richard Gingras wrote at the Lab about the questions that will define the future of journalism.


Reading roundup: It’s been a fairly slow week, but there are still a few interesting items to keep an eye on:

— Facebook has begun testing “trending articles” as a way to get more people to use its social news apps, though ReadWriteWeb’s Jon Mitchell said those apps, No prescription Cephalexin online, and the “frictionless sharing” they depend on, aren’t working. — Finally, the Times’ Brian Stelter wrote a thoughtful piece on the fleeting nature of today’s information environment, and the ephemeral, hyperactive common conversation it gives us.

Order Cipro

Activism and journalism from the ground up: Now that the story of Trayvon Martin’s killing has moved fully into the U.S.’ national consciousness, a few writers have taken a look back to examine the path it took to get there. The New York Times’ Brian Stelter traced the story’s rise to prominence, highlighting the role of racial diversity in newsrooms in drawing attention to it. Poynter’s Kelly McBride gave a more detailed review of the story’s path through the media, Buy Cipro without prescription, concluding: “This is how stories are told now. They are told by people who care passionately, until we all care.” (This week, there was also bottom-up sourcing of a more dubious nature on the story, as the Columbia Journalism Review’s Ryan Chittum pointed out.)

The New York Times’ David Carr looked at the Trayvon Martin story and several other web-driven campaigns to assess the value of “hashtag activism, online buying Cipro hcl,” acknowledging its limitations but concluding that while web activism is no match for its offline counterpart, it still makes the world a better place.

There were several other strains of conversation tying into digital activism and citizen journalism this week: the Lab re-printed a Talking Points Memo story on the unreliability of Twitter buzz as a predictor of election results, Cipro alternatives, and the University of Colorado’s Steve Outing wondered whether social media movements have surpassed the impact of traditional journalism on many issues.

Meanwhile, the report of an embellished photo from a citizen journalist in Syria led some to question the reliability of that information, but GigaOM’s Mathew Ingram countered that citizen journalism isn’t displacing traditional journalism, but helping complement it when used wisely, Order Cipro. One of Ingram’s prime examples of that blending of traditional and citizen-powered journalism was NPR tweeter extraordinaire Andy Carvin, who was the subject of a fine Current profile, in which he described Twitter as “the newsroom where I spend my time” and pinpointing news judgment as the key ingredient in his journalistic curation process.

 

Debating the effectiveness of news paywalls: Google formally unveiled its new paywall alternative in partnership with publishers this week: News sites include surveys that users need to answer in order to read an article, Cipro over the counter. Google pays news sites a nickel per answer, advertisers pay Google for the survey, everybody goes home happy. Low dose Cipro, Just a few publishers have signed up so far, though. (You might remember that the Lab’s Justin Ellis wrote on Google’s testing of this idea last fall.)

Elsewhere in paywalls: Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said his paper has not ruled out Order Cipro,  a paywall plan, though he also clarified that there’s “nothing on the horizon.” His publication is, obviously, far from the only one grappling with the prospect of charging for content online: The New Republic’s new owner dropped the magazine’s paywall for recent articles, and The Washington Post’s ombudsman, Patrick Pexton, explained why he doesn’t see a paywall in that paper’s future.

Pexton said the Post first needs to build up its reader base and make sure the site’s technology runs better, and he cast some doubt on the helpfulness of The New York Times’ pay plan for its bottom line. The Columbia Journalism Review’s Ryan Chittum picked apart Pexton’s analysis of the Times’ numbers, australia, uk, us, usa, and asserted that a paywall’s purpose isn’t to be enormously profitable, and non-paywall digital revenue plans aren’t, either. “The point [of a paywall] is to stop or slow the bleeding and to help make the transition to an all-digital future five or ten years down the line — one that includes more than one flimsy revenue stream based on volatile and not-very-lucrative digital ads, Cipro for sale, ” he wrote.

GigaOM’s Mathew Ingram suggested a “velvet rope” approach to paid content instead of a paywall, in which users would volunteer to pay in exchange for privileges and perks. The Times’ David Carr was skeptical — on Twitter, he summarized the post as, Cipro description, “Don’t build a paywall, create a velvet rope made out of socmedia pixie dust and see if that pays the bills.”


The Guardian opens up: The Guardian is firmly positioning itself at the forefront of what it calls “open journalism,” as it hosted a festival last weekend called the Guardian Open Weekend, Cipro results, during which more than 5,000 readers visited its London offices. The paper recapped the event, and Polis’ Charlie Beckett urged The Guardian to go further and faster in incorporating readers into its production process, turning them from “readers” to “members.”

Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger held a Q&A with readers on open journalism, in which he spoke of the tension between the print and digital products in enacting change: “In order to be effective digital companies newspapers have to free themselves of some of the thinking that goes into the creation or a printed product…But most of the revenue is still in print, so the transition is bound to be a staged one, involving fine judgements about the pace of change.”Rusbridger also tweeted the paper’s 10 principles of open journalism, which were helpfully Storified by Josh Stearns, along with some other open journalism resources, Order Cipro.


New accusations against News Corp.: A new branch grew out of News Corp.’s ever-growing tree of scandals this week, when two news orgs in Britain and Australia almost simultaneously broke stories about alleged hacking by NDS Group, a British satellite TV company of which News Corp, what is Cipro. owns 49 percent. According to the BBC and the Australian Financial Review, NDS hired hackers to break into its competitors’ systems and get codes for satellite TV cards to illegally leak them to the public, Cipro pics, giving them pay-TV services for free. The New York Times knitted the two allegations together well.

The Australian Federal Police is now looking into the case, and Reuters reported on the growing pressure for new investigations against News Corp. Order Cipro, in Britain and Australia. Meanwhile, Frontline aired a documentary on the scandal, Cipro wiki, and The Guardian reported on Rupert Murdoch’s attacks on the accusations on Twitter.


 

Mike Daisey, journalism, Cipro no prescription, and advocacy: Interest in last week’s blowup over This American Life’s retraction of Mike Daisey’s fabricated story about abuses of Chinese factory workers turned out to be more intense than expected: As the Lab’s Andrew Phelps reported, the retraction was the most downloaded episode in TAL history, surpassing the previous record set by the original story. Daisey himself gave a much more thorough, less defensive apology this week, Cipro brand name, and Gawker’s Adrian Chen said he wished Daisey would have been so contrite in the first place.

In Current, Alicia Shepard examined the story from the perspective of Marketplace, Where can i buy cheapest Cipro online, the public radio program that exposed Daisey’s falsehoods. In a long, thoughtful post, Ethan Zuckerman of Harvard’s Berkman Center compared Daisey’s story to the Kony 2012 viral video, using them to pose some good questions about the space between journalism and advocacy, Order Cipro.

— A couple of pieces succinctly laying out some of the growing challenges for those trying to control online content and discourse: First, a piece in The Guardian by Michael Wolff on the trouble that the rise of mobile media poses for news business models, and second, a post by JP Rangaswami positing Africa as the next site of resistance against online media control.

— In a similar vein, GigaOM’s Mathew Ingram wrote about the ways in which the giants of tech are all moving in on the same territory of user data and control, arguing that the real challenge is getting users to care about whether we end up with an open or closed web.

— NYU j-prof Jay Rosen wrote an insightful piece on how journalists claim the authority to be listened to by the public: “I’m there, you’re not, let me tell you about it.”

— Finally, at Poynter, Matt Thompson put together an interesting typology of journalists: Storyteller, newshound, systems analyst, and provocateur. He’s got some great initial tips on how to work with each type, and play to each one’s strengths within a newsroom environment.

Tramadol Mg

Google, social search, privacy, and evil: Two weeks after Google raised the ire of Facebook and Twitter by privileging Google+ within its search results, the two companies came out with a sharp response: A browser bookmarklet, developed by engineers at the two companies and MySpace and not-so-subtly titled "Don't Be Evil," that removes the specific Google+ elements of Google's new Search Plus Your World feature. Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan has a thorough explanation of what the tool does, and search veteran John Battelle described what this "well-timed poke in the eye" means within Silicon Valley.

Some tech bloggers agreed with the sentiment behind the new hack: PandoDaily's Sarah Lacy said Google needs to acknowledge to its users that it's no longer presenting unbiased and objective search results, and her colleague MG Siegler and Daring Fireball's John Gruber argued that Google's big problem isn't ethical but practical — it's damaging its product by making results less relevant. Tramadol coupon, Others didn't see Google as the villain in this situation: Tech entrepreneur Chris Dixon argued that Twitter is asking for a sweetheart deal — top Google search rankings for their information without giving Google firehose access to it. Om Malik and Mathew Ingram of GigaOM pointed out that Facebook's record in putting user needs before its own gain is pretty spotty itself. Danny Sullivan proposed a truce between Google, Facebook, and Twitter based on making users' public information public to any search engine, treating social action as proprietary and profiles as search metadata, and making contacts portable, Tramadol pharmacy.

Google fueled more suspicion of evil later in the week when it announced a new privacy policy that will unite its tracking of users' behavior across search, Gmail, YouTube, and Google+ — a change users can't opt out of, Tramadol Mg. TechCrunch's Eric Eldon explained the reason for the move: Google's trying to improve the quality of its social data to compete with Facebook's growing pool.

The obvious question here is, as Mathew Ingram framed it, will all this information sharing be good for users, Tramadol wiki, or just Google's advertisers. Gizmodo's Mat Honan led the way in charging the latter, saying that Google is taking away the user control that helped form the cornerstone of its "don't be evil" philosophy. Devin Coldewey of TechCrunch and Christopher Dawson of ZDNet argued the opposite, that Google is only simplifying its privacy policies, something that should be easier to understand and maybe even more helpful for users.

Danny Sullivan's response was mixed, Tramadol for sale, as he pointed out both potential benefits and concerns for users. Tramadol Mg, That ambivalence was shared by Wired's Tim Carmody, who concluded that Google is not evil, but "something else, something more than a little uncanny, something that despite conjecture, projections, fictions, and a combination of excitement and foreboding, we haven’t fully prepared ourselves to recognize yet."

Elsewhere in the Google empire, Google+ announced a change to its real-names-based policy, allowing "established pseudonyms." ZDNet's Violet Blue noted that the allowance of pseudonyms is still quite limited, and Trevor Gilbert of PandoDaily said this change is probably related to Google+ pseudonyms' value in Google's new integrated social search function. Adam Shostack of Emergent Chaos argued that the initial insistence on real names was a big part of Google+'s disappointing start.

Ensuring accuracy in breaking news: We saw an interesting case study in breaking news, accuracy, Cheap Tramadol no rx, and Twitter last weekend when the death of longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was falsely reported Saturday night by a Penn State student news site called Onward State, then spread across Twitter. (Paterno died the following morning.) Jeff Sonderman of Poynter put together a useful Twitter timeline of the mishap, which prompted an apology and resignation by the site's managing editor, Devon Edwards, though he'll stay on staff there, Tramadol no prescription. Some other news organizations that repeated the error, most prominently CBSSports.com, published their own apologies, too.

Poynter's Craig Silverman gave a parallel explanation of how the AP decided not to run with the report.

Silverman also reviewed the aftermath of the erroneous report, concluding that journalists are too focused on the benefits of reporting news first, without looking enough at the risk. He chastised CBS Sports for not crediting Onward State with the scoop, buy Tramadol no prescription, but then passing it off on them when the story was shown to be false. Sports blogger Clay Travis said CBS' dubious behavior — particularly running with an unconfirmed bombshell report without linking to the source — was a  Tramadol Mg, function of "search whoring," a tactic he said is running rampant in sports journalism.

GigaOM's Mathew Ingram went easier on Onward State, saying their process wasn't much different from that of established news orgs and praising them for their quick corrections and transparency. And while writing about an unrelated story, the Lab's Gina Chen gave some other tips on bringing clarity to breaking news in a real-time environment.

Lessons from the SOPA/PIPA fight: The web declared victory last Friday in the fight over SOPA and PIPA with the postponement of both bills, then shifted promptly to postmortem mode for much of this week. Talking Points Memo's Carl Franzen had a great account of how all this happened, Tramadol cost, and New York magazine's Will Leitch said this was a seminal moment in the ascendancy of the web's ethic of collaborative creation above Hollywood's traditional gatekeeping model.

On the What It All Means front, one post stands out: Renowned Harvard network scholar Yochai Benkler's seven lessons from the SOPA/PIPA fight, in which he explained the tension between Hollywood's desire for increased copyright control and freedom of the web that gives rise to the networked public sphere, Tramadol Mg. Last week's events, he wrote, gave a glimpse of the power of that networked public, Where can i order Tramadol without prescription, which he argued is more legitimate than the power of money: "if the industry wants to be able to speak with the moral authority of the networked public sphere, it will have to listen to what the networked public is saying and understand the political alliance as a coalition."

Several others, including the Guardian's Dan Gillmor, also warned of the entertainment industry's lust for control and the copyright fights that will continue to flow out of that desire. NYU prof Clay Shirky argued this point most forcefully, cautioning us not to underestimate how far the industry will go to regain its control, rx free Tramadol, and Instapaper founder Marco Arment told us not to underestimate how much the industry loathes assertive users: "They see us as stupid eyeballs with wallets, and they are entitled to a constant stream of our money." Venture capitalist Fred Wilson was more positive in his assessment of what's next, urging the entertainment and tech industries to come together under a set of shared goals and principles.

— New York Times public editor Arthur Brisbane issued his formal follow-up to his much-maligned "truth vigilantes" column, saying that he's OK with the Times doing routine fact-checking and rebutting of officials' false claims in news articles, as long as it does so very carefully and cautiously. Voice of San Diego, meanwhile, published its own manifesto for truth vigilantism, effects of Tramadol.

— Textbooks for Apple's newly updated iBooks platform are flying off the digital shelves, though concerns about rights issues are lingering. John Gruber explained how different Apple's proprietary file format looks depending on where you're coming from, and Cult of Mac's Mike Elgan argued against Apple's rights critics. — A Pew report found that tablet and e-reader ownership nearly doubled over the holidays, Tramadol Mg. The Atlantic's Megan Garber wondered if the gift-giving bump is really as good as it seems for Apple and Amazon.

— A few interesting pieces on online sharing: Reuters' Felix Salmon reflected on how it will disrupt the web's traditional model, and Poynter's Jeff Sonderman wrote a guide to making news content shareable. The Lab's Justin Ellis also gave some engagement tips based on Facebook data, and ProPublica's Daniel Victor looked at the viral success of images on Facebook. Researcher Nick Diakopoulos crunched some New York Times numbers to see what news gets shared on Twitter.

— Finally, a couple of enlightening exit interviews with Raju Narisetti, who is leaving the Washington Post's top digital post for the Wall Street Journal: One at the Lab and another at Poynter.

Order Bactrim

Social search and competition: Google made a major move toward unifying search and social networks (particularly its own) this week by fusing Google+ into its search and deepening its search personalization based on social information. It's a significant development with a lot of different angles, so I'll try to hit all of them as understandably as I can.

As usual, Search Engine Land's Danny Sullivan put together the best basic guide to the changes, with plenty of visual examples and some brief thoughts on many of the issues I'll cover here. TechCrunch's Jason Kincaid explained that while these changes may seem incremental now, low dose Bactrim, they're foreshadowing Google's eventual goal to become "a search engine for all of your stuff."

PaidContent's Jeff Roberts liked the form and functionality of the new search, but said it still needs a critical mass of Google+ activity to become truly useful, while GigaOM's Janko Roettgers said its keys will be photos and celebrities. ReadWriteWeb's Jon Mitchell was impressed by the non-evilness of it, particularly the ability to turn it off. Farhad Manjoo of Slate said Google's reliance on social information is breaking what was a good search engine, Order Bactrim. For others, the changes even called up the specter of antitrust violations. MG Siegler said he doesn't mind Google's search (near-) monopoly, but when it starts using that monopoly to push its other products, Bactrim no rx, that's when it turns into a legal problem. Danny Sullivan laid out some of the areas of dispute in a possible antitrust case and urged Google to more fully integrate its competitors into search.

Innovation and its discontents: Washington Post ombudsman Patrick Pexton inducing a bit of eye-rolling among digital media folks this week with a column arguing that the paper is "innovating too fast" by overwhelming readers and exhausting employees with a myriad of initiatives that lack a coherent overall strategy. J-prof Jay Rosen followed up with a revealing chat with Pexton that helps push the discussion outside of the realm of stereotypes: Pexton isn't reflexively defending the status quo (though he remains largely print-centric), but thinks there are simply too many projects being undertaken without an overarching philosophy about how or why things should be done.

Pexton got plenty of push-back, not least from the Post's own top digital editor, Raju Narisetti, who responded by essentially saying, where can i buy cheapest Bactrim online, in Rosen's paraphrase, "This is the way it’s going to be and has to be, if the Post is to survive and thrive. It may well be exhausting but there is no alternative." J-prof Alfred Hermida argued Order Bactrim, — as Pexton himself seemed to in his chat with Rosen — that the issue is not about how fast or slow innovation is undertaken, but whether that innovation is done in a way that's good or bad for journalism. Former Sacramento Bee editor Melanie Sill responded that many newspapers remain stuck in 20th-century formulas, blinding them to the fact that what they consider revolutionary change is only a minor, outmoded shift. She noted that all the former top editors she's talked to have had the same regret: that they hadn't pushed harder for change. And Free Press' Josh Stearns pointed out that we should expect the path toward that change to be an easy one.

'Truth vigilantes' and objectivity: Pexton wasn't the only ombudsman this week to be put on the defensive after a widely derided column: New York Times public editor Arthur Brisbane drew plenty of criticism yesterday when he asked whether Times reporters should call out officials' untruths in their stories — or, as he put it, where to buy Bactrim, act as a "truth vigilante." Much of the initial reaction was a variation of, "How is this even a question?"

Brisbane told Romenesko that he wasn't asking whether the Times should fact-check statements and print the truth, but whether reporters should "always rebut dubious facts in the body of the stories they are writing." He reiterated this in a follow-up, in which he also printed a response by Times executive editor Jill Abramson saying the Times does this all the time. A unique paywall model: The many American, British, and Canadian publishers implementing or considering paywalls might marvel at the paid-content success of Piano Media, but they can't hope to emulate it: A year after gaining the cooperation of each of Slovakia's major news publishers for a unified paywall there, the company is expanding the concept to Slovenia, no prescription Bactrim online. — One item I forgot to note from late last week: The AP and a group of 28 other news organizations have launched NewsRight, a system to help news orgs license their content to online aggregators. Poynter's Rick Edmonds offered a detailed analysis, but GigaOM's Mathew Ingram was skeptical, Bactrim steet value.

— The online commenting service Disqus released some of its internal research Order Bactrim, showing that pseudonymous commenters tend to leave more and higher-quality comments than their real-name counterparts. GigaOM's Mathew Ingram used the data to argue that a lack of real names isn't nearly as bad as its critics say.

Google+ courts businesses: After banning businesses for its first four months, Google+ finally let them in this week, launching Google+ Pages, which gives accounts to business and groups. (Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land put together the best walkthrough of what Pages are and how they work.) Businesses jumped right in, including, About Cephalexin, of course, news orgs: Breaking News put together a running list of news Pages, and one Fox News show announced it would do Hangouts with presidential candidates, starting with Mitt Romney next week.

As Business Insider explained, Google has a big carrot to draw businesses in: Direct Connect, which allows users to go directly to a business's Google+ Page if they the business's name preceded by a "+". Lost Remote's Cory Bergman (who also runs the Breaking News Google+ account) said businesses should also get some SEO mojo from users clicking +1 on their Google+ account, which he argued was enough of a payoff to justify maintaining a Google+ account — at least for now, Cephalexin over the counter, anyway.

Social media guru Robert Scoble, on the other hand, was disappointed in Pages, calling them clumsy and difficult to manage, Cephalexin For Sale. Fast Company's Mark Wilson brought up the same point and added that since Google gives individuals two options of how to engage with businesses instead of Facebook's single "Like," most people will choose the weaker option. Media consultant Mark Potts hit many of the main points in his defense of Romenesko, noting that no one has complained to Poynter about this in the decade he's been blogging for them. Reuters' Felix Salmon pointed to Romenesko's stature in the blogosphere and his role in establishing the field's norms: "If your guidelines go against what Jim is doing, then there might well be something wrong with your guidelines."

The Awl's Choire Sicha took the opportunity to level a more serious charge at Poynter's handling of Romenesko's blog, saying that "Poynter has worked systematically to erode a fairly noble, not particularly money-making thing as it works to boost 'engagement'" and other online-media buzzwords, Cephalexin For Sale. For his part, Romenesko himself expressed his frustration in typically understated fashion in an email to the New York Times, then tweeted that "I feel it's time to go."

Is future-of-news talk hurting journalism?: This week, we got the rare opportunity to have a substantive, big-picture (meta)discussion about the way we think about the future of news when the Columbia Journalism Review published a thorough critique by Dean Starkman of 'future of news' thinkers like Jeff Jarvis, Clay Shirky, Cephalexin alternatives, and Jay Rosen.

The piece is quite long, but worth a close read: In short, Starkman argued that these thinkers are undermining the most valuable form of journalism — public-service journalism — by disempowering journalists and their institutions and by wasting their limited time (and the public's) with endless, mostly useless experimentation and busywork. Instead, Starkman proposed a model built around maintaining journalism's most valued institutions, Buy Cephalexin without a prescription, arguing that "journalism needs its own institutions for the simple reason that it reports on institutions much larger than itself."

Several people objected to Starkman's argument, starting with media strategist Terry Heaton, who countered that it's not institutions the future-of-news people have a problem with, but hierarchical institutions, and former Wall Street Journal writer Jason Fry, who said that some forms of news are indeed a commodity. As the Times noted, Nisenholtz has been intimately involved in just about every major technological initiative the Times has undertaken since he came on board in 1995: Launching the website, moving it into mobile media and tablets, Cephalexin description, and instituting its paywall earlier this year.

A neutral way to tweet: If a few of the most recent sets of social media guidelines are any indication, news organizations are really struggling with the concept of their journalists' retweets on Twitter, Cephalexin For Sale. Several of those organizations have asked journalists not to retweet opinionated content without comment, lest they be thought of as biased themselves. — Andy Rooney of CBS' 60 Minutes, one of the icons of American broadcast television, died late last week at age 92.
